Lyle & Scott. Where does this brand come from?

by Luca Ronco

The brand was founded in the small town of Hawick in Scotland in 1874 by William Lyle and Walter Scott and enjoyed rapid growth in the 1960s, when its golf collection was worn by golfing greats of the period including Gary Player, Greg Norman and Tony Jacklin.

Historical curiosities:

In 1975, the Duke of Edinburgh awarded William Lyle and Walter Scott the Royal Warrant of Appointment, an honour awarded by the British Royal Family to businesses that supply goods or services to the English Crown.

In the 1980s, the brand became a point of reference for various movements and subcultures such as Skinheads, Casuals and Mod-79 (also known as Mod Revival).

In 2003, the launch of the Vintage line will follow:

The Vintage range, while drawing inspiration from its origins, features a variety of modern details, lending a contemporary touch to both the product and the fit. Furthermore, the famous "Golden Eagle" logo makes its debut on this occasion.

In the same year, the Vintage collection was also chosen for the British teen drama “Skins”, based on the adventures of a group of teenagers from Bristol (UK) who deal with important issues such as depression, sexuality, bullying and drugs.

Today, the Scottish brand, with its 146 years of history, represents a must-have, perfectly embodying the synthesis between the elegance of classic fashion and trendy casualness with its lines of superior quality clothing and accessories, achieved thanks to a careful selection of fabrics and materials and a design with an unmistakable casual touch.

These characteristics make Lyle & Scott a brand that over time has been chosen by comedians, musicians, actors and sports professionals.

Among the brand's most successful items are the classic crew neck t-shirts, polo shirts, Bermuda cargo shorts, hoodies and various types of jackets that stand out for their elegance and practicality.

In recent years, sustainability has taken on a key role for the company, which sets goals to be achieved every three years, divided into three main areas: people, products, and the planet.

By 2021, the brand will aim to: affiliate with three charities, establish a product recycling service for customers (which will generate a 10% reduction in carbon during production), and use sustainable fabrics in at least 50% of its production.
